EMRAD has set up a shared technical system which allows clinicians to access the complete imaging record for their patients, including scans, reports and clinical opinions, regardless of where they are based. The system, provided by GE Healthcare, links up hospitals across the East Midlands, providing a timely and expert radiology service covering images such as x-rays, MRI and CT scans.
Cross-site reporting is now in place so radiologists and radiographers in one hospital can view and assess images taken at another hospital in the East Midlands.
EMRAD has support from GE Healthcare in implementing a range of software solutions for radiology services. These include using software for the safe and secure transfer of images and patient records, the ability to view and report on images taken at different hospital sites, and the ability to measure and record patient exposure to radiation during imaging exams.
The aim of all these software solutions is to create a radiology service that is quick, safe, high quality, well-run and cost-effective.
EMRAD now has three billion images stored from two million patient examinations over the past decade. Analysis and investigation of this vast amount of data can help the health community and potential AI technology partners gain insight into how best to improve patient diagnosis and care in future years.
The data available to EMRAD contains information such as the dates and times of the images, how long it took the images to be viewed, assessed and reported, the type of image, and patient admission type. Analysis of this information can create valuable learning for individuals and teams in sharing best practice and improving radiology services.
The EMRAD Analytics Service using a Tableau based BI Tool have built dashboards for our Trusts looking at their Radiology KPI's, Radiology Reporting ‘Turn Around Times', Insourcing costs, Reporting Backlogs and Capacity, and Cancer Reporting data to help improve their radiology services and help their patients.
The EMRAD Insourcing Programme supports radiologists and radiographers employed in our Trusts to report images outside their core hours that would have otherwise been outsourced to third-party private companies at much higher costs.
